Linda Kemp
~ artist and author, CSPWC, OSA, SCA, is internationally recognized for her unique contemporary watercolours and acrylics which incorporate her innovative use of negative painting. She is the author of Watercolour Painting Outside the Lines – A Positive Approach to Negative Painting (North Light Publishers) and the accompanying video by the same title produced in the UK (Teaching Art Videos).
Linda is also a contributing writer/demonstrator in six other books and on YouTube. Her paintings and articles have been featured in publications such as American Artist Magazine, Watercolor Magic, International Artist, Watercolor Artist, Twenty Wonders, Watermedia Focus, Palette Magazine and The Watercolour Gazette.
Kemp is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC). The Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) and The Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) as well s an honorary member of the Society for All Artists (SAA – UK). This artist is profiled in Canadian Who’s Who, Who’s Who of Canadian Women, The Dictionary of International Biography, The 20th Anniversary Edition of Trivial Pursuit and 2000 Intellectuals of the 21st Century.
Linda is the recipient of the 2005 Woman of Distinction Award for Arts and Culture and, in 2008, received the AJ Casson Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Watercolour – the top award offered by The Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour in a National Juried Exhibition.
Her award winning paintings are in private, public and corporate collections around the world, including the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle, UK and the private collection of HRH The Prince of Wales.
Kemp is a full time artist and continues an active schedule of instruction and lecturing in symposia and workshops across Canada, throughout the United States and in the United Kingdom and includes painting adventures in the South of France.
The interwoven forms and layers of patterns Kemp discovers while investigating tangled woodlands and countryside provide her inspiration. It is the desire to decipher, understand and organize the shapes and colours that motivates her to paint. Building on a love of watercolour, she enthusiastically embraces a new romance with acrylic on canvas and panel.
